High school students in Houston are changing lives half a world away, crafting wind turbines and water filtration systems to benefit students in Africa.
Booker T. Washington High School principal Dr. Carlos Phillips saw firsthand the conditions when he was invited to speak at a college in Zimbabwe.
“We have all the resources that we need, so it’s just so crazy to find out that somewhere else, people aren’t living like you are,” he said.
He, his students and teachers wanted to help, so they got to work on technology to benefit the students in Zimbabwe.
The students are now focused on raising enough money to get themselves and their life-changing project to Africa.
“These students are hidden jewels. We have the best teachers here, we have some of the best students here and this could be something big. We want our students to be the groundbreakers,” he added.
