Mayor Sylvester Turner teamed with Comcast to host the 2nd Annual Mayor’s History Makers Awards, a Black History Month event honoring 10 community volunteers. The luncheon held at the Houstonian Hotel paid tribute to the honorees’ difference-making efforts of volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy and civic engagement. Khambrel Marshall served as emcee. Comcast executives Ralph Martinez and Ray Purser, along with Turner, greeted each awardee—Sam Alix, Darryl Blackburn, Donna Brownlow, Leonard Donaldson, LaShonda Johnson, Rev. William Lawson, Howard Middleton, Patrick Purnell, Tiffany Sanders and Patricia Smith Prather, winner of the Living Legend Award. Ashley Turner, Juana Collins, Laura Mayorga, Misha McClure, Ashley Small, Councilmember Martha Castex-Tatum, Chaun Vaughn and many others attended as well.
