Black in Space World Premiere

Comcast and Smithsonian Channel partnered to present a private screening and world premiere of “Black in Space: Breaking the Color Barrier,” directed and produced by Laurens Grant. The documentary focuses on the revelatory story of the world’s first Black astronauts, a story that shows how the 20^th-century Space Race, Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement converged in powerful and surprising ways. After the premiere KHOU’s Mia Gradney moderated a panel discussion featuring Grant, along with Dr. Cathleen Lewis and Edward Dwight, NASA’s first Black astronaut candidate. Attendees who packed into the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s IMAX Theater included Cheryl B. Moore (widow of Astronaut Ron McNair), John and Dr. Lucy Bremond, Jacqueline Bostic, Vannessa Wade, Deneige Broom, Erica Simon, Loretta Williams Gurnell, Brittnee Love, Meja Lang’o, Bryce Kennard, Carolyn Kennard, Melissa Frank, Velia Johnson, Tommy and Wanda Cookie Clay, Dr. Annetra Piper, Byron Eugene, Sineria Ordonez, Angel Rosa, Ray Purser, Laura Mayorga, Aurelia Johnson, Misha McClure, Bryce Kennard and countless others.
