Comcast NBCUniversal recently hosted a series of events across Houston designed to shine a spotlight on the urgent need to bring more Internet access and training to local families, students, veterans and people with disabilities. One of the beneficiaries of this effort was Eight Million Stories (8MS), a local non-profit that seeks to upend the school-to-prison pipeline by supporting previously incarcerated youth as they re-enter their community and curbing unnecessary referrals from schools to the justice system. David L. Cohen, Comcast’s Senior Executive VP was on hand as his company surprised 90 8MS program participants with free laptops. Also present was Mayor Sylvester Turner who announced a grant for the City of Houston’s Complete Communities initiative at Eight Million Stories. Attendees included Marvin Pierre (8MS exec. Director), Skyra Thomas, Misha McClure, Ray Purser, Ralph Martinez and many more.
