Several groups, headed by the Women’s Missionary Society and the National Newspaper Publishers Association, hosted the Future of Black America Symposium, a gathering seeking to provide ways for individuals and groups to navigate the current complex political and social environment. Several national speakers participated, including Mike Espy, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture; New Jersey Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver; Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg and others. Attendees included Deborah Taylor King, Carl Davis, Melanie Campbell, Valerie Bell, Carroll Robinson, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Sonceria Messiah Jiles, ReShonda Tate Billingsley, Karen Carter Richards (NNPA Chair), Dr. Michael O. Adams, Rev. Regena Thomas, Lisa Johnson-Whigham, Rev. Dr. Michael Bell, Lena Bell, Ja’Leah Davis and countless others.
