At the George R. Brown Convention Center Houstonians displaced by the “Storm of the Century” and those swept up with the spirit of volunteer service interacted in ways that showed the state, nation and world a powerful example of how our society can be if we but choose to make it so. Government officials, first-responders, athletes, celebrities and ordinary citizens from near and far came together, pushing aside the many barriers that usually divide, so that all who had need could receive the help and support required for recovery. The Defender salutes all those who showed the world the meaning of HOUSTON STRONG!
