In honor of the upcoming Colour of Music Festival’s Houston Debut (Sept 12-16), the Emancipation Park Conservancy played host to a precursor event—The Evolution of Houston’s Black Classical Music Legacy. Coordinated by founder and artistic director Dr. Lee Pringle, the event featured performances by world-renowned classical musicians Anyango Yarbo-Davenport (violin), Ashleigh Gordon (viola), Kevin Phillip Jones (cello), Joy Cline Phinney (piano) and Icy Renee Monroe (soprano). Attendees included Dr. Elwyn Lee, Michelle Barnes, Lucy Bremond, Nathaniel & Marie Stover, Ruby Ware, Haywood & Billie Talib, Adrianne Walker, McKenzie Watson, Lillian Smith, Alvin Castle and many more.
