The Atlantic and John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation sponsored Race + Justice Houston, a gathering of community leaders and elected officials for a wide-ranging conversation on the state of justice in Houston. The Atlantic chose Houston as the site of this year’s conversation because of its diversity and because Texas is a microcosm of national criminal justice trends. Participants included Margaret Low (president, Atlantic Live), Laurie Garduque (MacArthur Foundation), Alycia Miles, Brandi Holmes, Stevens Orozco, State Senator Sylvia Garcia, Sharon Watkins Jones (ACLU Texas), Houston DA Kim Ogg, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Noel Pinnock, Ana Yanez-Correa, Juno Okoro and many more.
