ACLU Texas and TSU’s Urban Research and Resource Center held its Smart Justice Kick-Off Reception, marking the beginning of the Smart Justice Speakers Bureau. Formerly incarcerated persons will participate in a 12-week curriculum designed to certify them as public speakers able to influence state legislatures, legal and non-legal entities regarding the need for criminal justice reform. Attendees included Anthony Graves, Texas Death Row exoneree #138, who birthed the Bureau idea, Terri Burke (executive Director, ACLU Texas), Sharon Watkins Jones, Marcia Johnson (URRC director), Congressman Al Green, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Hon.
