Put together by AnitaB.org, a group that supports women in technology, the Grace Hopper Conference, an annual, three-day event that features career fairs, trainings and talks from notable women and women of color in STEM fields came to Houston. The event attracted over 20,000 people, including 50-plus young women of color sponsored by the Oakland-based SMASH Academy, a free STEM-intensive college prep program for underrepresented high school students of color. SMASH participants networked with top STEM professionals while enjoying a SMASH alumni reunion. Attendees included SMASH co-founder Dr. Freada Kapor Klein, AnitaB.org president & CEO Brenda Darden Wilkerson, Dr. Danielle Rose, Dr. Allison Scott, Haile Shavers, Lateja Whittaker, Calista Nelson, Esther Melton, Ulili Onovakpuri and countless others.
