Texas Southern University President Austin Lane and First Lady Loren Lane hosted the TSU Maroon & Gray Affair 2019, the school’s signature fundraising event. Held at the Marriot Marquis Downtown, the event raised over $1.2 million for student scholarships. MCs Syan Rhodes (KPRC) and TSU alum Billy Sorrells presided while R&B trio SWV and DJ Kid Capri provided the entertainment. TSU students Lashawn Hamb and Orlando Sutton Jr. were recognized for their academic and civic accomplishments. TSU alumni Gerald Smith and State Rep. Rhetta Andrews Bowers, were honored, as well. Also acknowledged were the “Elite 8” newly elected Harris County judges and TSU alumnae Ronnisha Bowman, Sharon Burney, Linda Dunson, Toria Finch, Angela Graves-Harrington, Erica Hughes, Germaine Tanner and LaShawn Williams. Other attendees included Mayor Sylvester Turner, U.S. representatives Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green, LaTanya Love, Suzanne Goudeau, Tejuana Edmond, Tabitha Garcia, Lourel Jones, Lori LaBrie and others.
