Cardi B’s request to trademark ‘Okurr’ denied

Cardi B won’t be seeing any money off of the phrase “Okurr!” Her request to trademark the catchphrase was denied by the U.S Patent and Trademark Officials.

According to documents obtained by The Blast, it was determined “Okurr” is a “widely-used commonplace expression” that was popular before Cardi began using it. It was ruled that “Okurr”  “is a slogan or term that does not function as a trademark or service mark to indicate the source of applicant’s goods and/or services.”

The “I Like It” rapper had plans to put the phrase on cups and other paper goods as well as t-shirts.  Other companies have already began plastering the term on different types of merchandise, which didn’t help Cardi’s request either. There have also been other requests submitted to trademark “Okurr” before Cardi submitted hers back in March.

Plus, the Kardashians have been seen saying “Okurr” on their reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
