Stellar ratings and an apology weren’t enough to mitigate Roseanne Barr’s racist comments, and ABC ended up pulling the plug on “Roseanne.” ABC Entertainment then-president Channing Dungey (a Black woman) said the network decided to cancel the “Roseanne” reboot because of Barr’s abhorrent, “repugnant” tweet. Barr apologized for the racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, a former senior advisor to President Barack Obama. Barr compared Jarrett, who is Black, to an ape in a tweet. ABC killed off Barr’s character brought back other cast members in a show titled “The Conners.”
