This is what Katy running back Deondrick Glass has been waiting for.

During Katy’s short-lived third round exit from the 2016 high school football playoffs, Glass was hampered with a leg injury.

Yet the junior is back to full speed and the unbeaten Tigers are the beneficiaries.

In a 55-7 victory over Cypress Ranch in an area-round playoff game at NRG Stadium, Glass rushed for 181 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns.

“That was always the plan. From the moment I was able to walk following the injury, I’ve been training and trying to get back to full potential,” Glass said. “Making it to the playoffs is all about improving every day.

“We’ve been preparing for this all season and I was especially looking forward to the Cy Ranch game because I got hurt against them last year,” Glass said.

Katy (10-0) advances to play Atascocita in a Class 6A Division I regional semifinal game Dec. 1 at NRG Stadium (7 p.m.).

“We have to keep pushing in these games and not take our foot off the opponent’s throat,” Glass said. “We want to wear teams down and keep pushing to the end of the game.”

Glass is part of a 1-2 Katy running back tandem with senior Josh Oglesby. On seven carries Oglesby added 43 rushing yards against Cy Ranch.

“Josh is like a big brother to me. I’m happy for him whenever he does well,” Glass said. “I’m always one of the first to congratulate him when he scores a touchdown.”
