Former NFL quarterback and Seahawks announcer Warren Moon denied sexually assaulting a former assistant, a woman 30 years his junior, while admitting they shared a bed.
The 61-year-old hall of famer opened an interview with KIRO radio’s Dori Monson by acknowledging the “very serious subject” of sexual harassment and sexual assault at the workplace. He went on to deny claims of sexual assault made by Wendy Haskell, Moon’s former assistant whose allegations prompted Moon to take a leave of absence from KIRO.
“A lot of women have held a lot of these feelings in for a long time, and are coming out and expressing these feelings, and they should be applauded for that,” Moon told Monson. “And I applaud those women for doing that. But in this particular situation, in my case, it just
Moon had worked alongside Monson as part of the radio station’s Seahawks gameday coverage until the former quarterback dropped off the air in the aftermath of the allegations made by Haskell, who was hired in July by Moon’s Irvine, California-based
Haskell, 32, filed the a lawsuit against Moon in Orange County, California, earlier this month, alleging that Moon required her to share a hotel bed with him on several occasions.
“At times we did share rooms together, and at other times we didn’t,” Moon said Thursday. “It just depended on the situation.”
Moon said he and Haskell shared hotel rooms before and after she started working for him. He admitted to sharing a bed with Haskell, but said he and Haskell never had a sexual relationship. When asked if he thought sharing a hotel room with a much younger woman as platonic friends seemed odd to him, Moon said he didn’t, citing his “history with women in general.”
Moon denied allegations that he pulled off Haskell’s bathing suit after slipping something into her drink during a recent trip to Mexico and that he required her to wear certain types of lingerie.
“I can get a big number of women that would come forward and tell you … that every time they were around me, they’d never feel any type of threat from me and they feel very comfortable around me,” he said.
