With school starting for Spring ISD students on Aug. 15, one way for new Spring ISD families to make sure they are ready is to attend the district’s New Student Registration and Family Resource Expo, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Dekaney High School, 22351 Imperial Valley Dr.
Open to all Spring ISD families, the event will feature registration stations for each campus, as well as extras like free haircuts for students, informative workshops for parents, backpacks and school supplies, and other giveaways to help equip students for learning.
“This is always an exciting event for us, and it’s one we really look forward to each year,” said Dr. Lupita Hinojosa, the district’s chief of school leadership and student support services. “It’s a chance for us as a district to welcome new students and their families to Spring ISD while, at the same time, connecting them with valuable information and resources that will help their children be successful in school.”
A range of local agencies active in the Spring community will be at the expo, including area hospitals and healthcare organizations, Scouting groups, tutoring companies that serve Spring ISD schools and students, and Texas WIC (a service of Texas Health and Human Services that serves new and expectant mothers and families with children younger than five).
Workshops for parents and guardians of elementary, middle and high school students will be offered throughout the day to help inform them about what to expect from their child’s school experience and how best to support their learning. College readiness presentations will also be offered.
