On Thursday, police arrested a 28-year-old Houston woman accused of murdering an acquaintance to abduct her baby and claim it as her own.

Here’s what you should know:

The suspect

Police said Erika Jisela Miranda-Alvarez, 28, fatally stabbed 33-year 0ld Carolina Miranda Flores on Tuesday.

Miranda-Alvarez was due to give birth to a baby of her own in January, but suffered a miscarriage, according to authorities. Police said Miranda-Alvarez did not tell her family and boyfriend about the miscarriage and later pretended to be at the hospital giving birth.

Police said Miranda-Alvarez and the victim, Carolina Flores, knew each other through Flores’ brother, Chron.com reports.

The manhunt

Two days after the stabbing, the investigation into the murder-kidnapping led Houston police and FBI to the Woodscape Apartments on South Gessner, CNN details. At the apartment complex, authorities noticed a suspicious man and a woman holding a baby.

The couple was detained and the newborn identified as the missing baby, police said. Authorities arrested Miranda-Alvarez and charged her with capital murder. Police have questioned the boyfriend, but he has not been charged.

The baby is okay

The 6-week-old infant, Shamali Flores, was taken to the Texas Children’s Hospital. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said the baby appears healthy and shows no signs of abuse. She is now in the custody of Child Protective Services
