Harris County and the City of Houston are asking for donations to the Imelda Assistance Fund to help those impacted by last week’s tropical storm.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said funds will help repair as many as 1,500 local homes damaged by the storm.
“The Imelda Assistance Fund will meet the needs of those who primarily need home repair, temporary housing or emergency financial assistance,” said Turner.
Houstonians are encouraged to donate to the fund online.
Harris County is also opening two local recovery centers to help residents recover from the storm. Centers are located at Kingwood United Methodist Church and the Grayson Community Center, near Greens Bayou.
Centers will assist families with filing insurance claims, finding temporary housing, connecting with legal aid and cleaning up debris.
The centers are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
Staff from the Red Cross, Baker Ripley, the Harris County Community Services Department and other non-profits will staff the new centers.
