Merry Christmas!! As Managing Editor of the Defender Network, I’m proud to reflect on the year we’ve had. We’ve worked tirelessly to bring stories that matter to our community—stories by us, for us—that resonate with our lives. From the crucial election coverage that shaped our future to breaking news like the Fort Bend County valedictorian issue, our team has been at the forefront of delivering news that impacts Black communities.
The importance of the Black press cannot be overstated. We are a vital voice that challenges the status quo, amplifies our triumphs, and highlights our struggles. In a media landscape often dominated by mainstream narratives, the Black press is essential in ensuring our stories are told with authenticity, respect, and truth.
I am incredibly proud of the work we do every day at the Defender Network. Whether we’re holding power accountable, providing in-depth reporting, or simply entertaining with our Top 5, we remain committed to the mission of serving our people. We carry the torch with honor, knowing that our reporting matters. As we continue to uplift our community, I’m excited for what lies ahead. Thank you for trusting us to be your voice.
