Let’s get out there right away: The violence Sean “Diddy” Combs perpetrated against singer Cassie Ventura was vile and inexcusable.
But currently, Combs is standing trial in federal court for sex trafficking and racketeering, mainly based on these so-called “freak offs” that he allegedly forced Cassie, his girlfriend at the time, to take part in. Cassie has accused Combs of making her participate or else be susceptible to mental, emotional and physical abuse.
During the opening week of testimony, Cassie took the stand and described the drug-induced, high-pressure, marathon sex encounters with multiple people that the Bad Boy founder made her participate in. But on cross-examination, Combs’ attorneys got Cassie to admit she often initiated some of the “freak offs, ” which raises some questions about whether she was really the victim.
Meanwhile, others point to the pattern of abuse Cassie endured and say that those who say she was complicit in the sex acts are victim blaming because the young artist feared for her safety.
In our latest episode of the Defender Roundtable, the panel debates whether Cassie is a victim of victim blaming or whether she was complicit in the Diddy “freak offs.”
