One of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s most poignant moments was when he delivered his “I Have a Dreamโ Speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, 1963.
But more than 60 years later, has his dream become a nightmare?
What would Dr. King think of controversial Republican President Donald Trump being inaugurated for the second time after running on a platform of disenfranchisement and politics that threatens to set back the gains of Black and Brown people?
What’s more troubling than his politics is the support Trump has received from some Black and Brown people, while many others have taken a more apathetic approach. Not nearly enough people seemed bothered or ready to act as we face an uncertain future these next four years.
What would Dr. King, who used civil disobedience to change the heart of this country, think about how things stand today and in the future?
In our latest episode, the Defender Roundtable panel ponders what Dr. King’s thoughts would be about where we are as a people today.
