The expectation has been that Donald Trump would be even more unhinged in his second round in the White House.

But in his first week as president?

That’s right Trump wasted little time making good on his campaign promises to overturn Biden-era policies, rounding up immigrants and pardoning some troubling criminals. Trump pulled out his pens during the first week on the job and, through a flurry of executive orders, wiped out government affirmative action and DEI policies, pardoned the American-born terrorist who took over the Capitol and assaulted police officers during the now infamous Jan. 6 resurrection.

He also attempted to change the Constitution by revoking birthright citizenship to children of immigrants who were born in America. A federal judge has blocked that attempt so far.

But all of the moves this week have many of us shrugging our shoulders and asking each other, can you believe this Trump sh*t? The only executive order he made that Black folks might see as remotely positive is the one that will declassify and release the records surrounding the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, along with John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy.

We will see.

In our latest episode, the Defender Roundtable debated the turbulent first week of Trump’s presidency and the precedence set for the next four years.
