The Turkey Leg Hut as a concept and restaurant experience has been nothing short of amazing in Houston’s Third Ward. Whoever thought you could do so much with a turkey leg?

However, controversy has plagued the popular eatery almost since its inception. Founder Nakia Price and her now ex-husband Lyndel Price and the Turkey Leg Hut have stayed in the news for all of the wrong reasons, whether it’s been for the fights because of noise and traffic from the surrounding community, the millions in unpaid debts, multiple fires, the couple’s messy divorce and the husband’s ouster from the business.

It did stop there. Just last week, news broke that the restaurant was closed because of 35 health code violations. That’s on top of their impending bankruptcy case, which could spell the end of the restaurant. Debtors want what is left of the restaurant turned into cash to pay them, so a judge is trying to figure out whether the bankruptcy should fall under Chapter 11 or Chapter 7.

In the meantime, the Grammy-nominated gospel singer James Fortune and his wife are suing Nakia Price for $300,000 for a loan that was never repaid and for being defrauded as investors.
