Letting Santa know exactly what I want for Christmas is always a special treat. Credit: Gemini A.I.

If you ask me, I donโ€™t ask for much for Christmas.

A pair of nice socks, a battery-operated digital alarm clock or some slippers will usually do. But not this year. I want stuff โ€“ some tangible and some maybe not so much.

At any rate, here is my Christmas Wishlist.

  1. Well wishes to my immediate family
Celebrating special times with my daughter  Amari Harris (left), my son Nigel Harris (right), my mother Carolyn Hubbard (second from left) and myself.

My continued and always wish is for my children, Amari and Nigel, along with my mother, Carolyn, to have continued happiness, love, prosperity and growth. Just the thought of those things happening for the people I hold dearest makes my heart smile.

2. Wishing nothing but the best for everyone important to me

Terrance Harris and cousin Sheniece Fountaine.

I also wish love, peace and happiness to all of my friends and family near and far. I also extend well-wishes to everyone taking the time to read this.

Now comes my reach wishlist. Although I call Houston home now, Cleveland will always be my kingdom as itโ€™s where my origin story begins. With that reality has come being a long-suffering sports fan. My most immediate sports wish is for the Cavaliers to fix whatever is ailing them. Iโ€™m counting on another NBA title.

Iโ€™m going to need Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Donovan Mitchell and coach Kenny Atkinson to get it together in January to ease some of this angst that we are feeling.

You canโ€™t talk Cleveland and long-suffering without mentioning the Cleveland Browns. I am the most objective sports writer you will ever find โ€“ except when it comes to the Browns. Iโ€™m usually rooting for them, but for the next couple of weeks I am rooting against the Browns because we need the highest draft picks possible to finally turn this thing around. We are on the right track with Shedeur Sanders.

5. Show the Defender family love

The Defender Family during our morning Zoom meeting.

And finally a wish for you. I want the Defender to continue to be your go-to source for Black news and information in Houston and across the country, whether itโ€™s politics, sports or for the culture. Please support our informative and extremely important work.

I've been with The Defender since August 2019. I'm a long-time sportswriter who has covered everything from college sports to the Texans and Rockets during my 16 years of living in the Houston market....
