John Hope Bryant is the real deal

When it comes to talking money in a way our community can actually understand — and act on — nobody does it like John Hope Bryant. The entrepreneur, author and financial expert dropped serious gems in our latest money edition, and our readers took notice.

In fact, we’ve never seen a financial story resonate like this in Defender history. His advice on what not to do with your money was so real, it has sparked more than 500,000 shares, likes and comments across social media.

Bryant isn’t just throwing around buzzwords. He’s building a movement rooted in financial dignity, self-determination and ownership. And as Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian once put it, Bryant really is the “conscience of capitalism.” If you missed the piece, go back and read it — twice. Your future self will thank you.

Trump attacks Harris — and Beyoncé?

Just when we thought we’d seen it all, Donald Trump took to Truth Social with a wild rant accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of paying celebrities — including Beyoncé, Oprah and Rev. Al Sharpton — to support her 2024 campaign. His claim? That Harris’ campaign illegally paid Beyoncé $11 million to show up at a Houston rally where, according to him, she was booed offstage.

Let’s be clear: Beyoncé didn’t perform and she definitely wasn’t booed. What did happen is that her production company was legally reimbursed for production costs — standard practice for any campaign event involving major talent. Oprah’s company received similar reimbursements for a televised sit-down with Harris. It’s one thing to lie about policy. But going after Beyoncé, Oprah and Kamala? That’s desperation — and it’s dangerous. We know what this is really about: Silencing Black power, Black money and Black influence. But what else do we expect from the man at the top? He’s threatened by Black women, and it shows.

Destiny’s Child brings the house down

While Trump is name-dropping Beyoncé for attention, the Queen herself was busy making history. During the final stop of her Cowboy Carter tour in Las Vegas, Beyoncé shocked fans by reuniting Destiny’s Child — yes, that Destiny’s Child — for a surprise performance. The moment was nothing short of iconic.

The crowd went wild as Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams hit the stage like they never left. The chemistry? Electric. The fashion? Flawless. The sisterhood? Unmatched. For longtime fans, it was the full-circle moment we’ve been waiting on since Coachella.

Sure, some folks in Houston were salty the reunion didn’t happen here — but let’s be honest, when Beyoncé does anything, she does it her way. And we’re just lucky to witness it.

Tea is serving protection, not gossip

A new app called Tea has climbed to No. 1 in the Apple App Store — and it’s not because people are craving drama. Designed by women, for women, Tea lets users anonymously share red flags, reviews and real-life stories about men they’ve dated or encountered. Think Yelp meets safety net — with background checks, phone number lookups and a strict no-men-allowed policy.

The app’s mission is simple: protect women in the dating world through transparency and sisterhood. In a space where traditional dating apps have fallen short on safety, Tea is flipping the script. And while some men are mad about it (one even suggested launching a “Coffee” app for rating women — insert eye roll), the truth is: women are reclaiming their space, their power and their peace. (Now, let’s just keep it from becoming a bash fest).

But here’s to that kind of energy — in finances, in politics, in pop culture and in love.
