The Atascocita Eagles are flying high this season. They are currently unbeaten in 6A Region III District 23 after an impressive string of victories against powerhouse teams like Houston Lamar, Katy, Westlake, and CE King. A major driving force behind their success has been the exceptional play of four-star running back Tory Blaylock, whose explosive play is turning heads as the team continues to rack up wins.

“Tory is a home run hitter,” said Atascocita head football coach Craig Stump. “Over the years he’s gotten bigger, faster, stronger. He’s explosive and he can go at any time.”

In a commanding 54-7 victory over CE King, Blaylock showcased his ability to dominate on the ground, racking up over 200 yards and six touchdowns on just 12 carries.

“The offensive line did a great job,” said Blaylock. “With them opening holes and the wide receivers blocking outside, it made my job easier. Scoring six touchdowns isn’t something you see every day. With the six touchdowns, I broke our school record and that was for sure a night to remember.”

Blaylock’s remarkable speed, clocked at an impressive 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, combined with his agility and patience, makes him a formidable threat. Blaylock’s running style has drawn comparisons to NFL greats Alvin Kamara and Marshall Faulk, blending speed and finesse seamlessly.

“I’m a big fan of Alvin Kamara and Saquon Barkley. They both have great balance and power,” said Blaylock.

Blaylock’s ability to read the defense and hit the hole with acceleration sets him apart. He’s not just fast; he’s smart on the field, elevating the entire offense. Last season, the Atascocita Eagles ranked first in points per game (49.1), yards per game (466.07), total offensive touchdowns (90), passing touchdowns (40), and passing yards (3455) in 6A Region III District 21.

Beyond Blaylock’s prowess on the field, he recently made headlines as part of the Atascocita 4×100 meter relay team that set a national record with a time of 38.92 seconds at the Victor Lopez Classic. This historic achievement marked that squad as the first U.S. high school boys’ team to dip under the 39-second mark, a feat that further emphasizes Blaylock’s elite speed.

The roots of Blaylock’s talent run deep. His father, Derrick Blaylock, is a seven-year NFL veteran known as the “speed guru.” Drawing from his extensive experience, Derrick has been instrumental in developing Tory’s game, blending advanced techniques with the fundamentals of running.

“I’ve learned a lot from my dad; pretty much everything I know about the position,” said Blaylock. “It’s a blessing having a dad who has been where I want to be and can help me get there. During the off-season, our workouts emphasized improving patience and explosion.”

As Blaylock continues to make his mark, he remains focused on team goals. Currently committed to the University of Oklahoma, he is also close to becoming Atascocita High School’s rushing leader. However, Blaylock is taking a measured approach, aiming to rush for 1,800 to 2,000 yards this season while prioritizing the team’s success.

“Breaking the school rushing record would be nice, but I have bigger goals. This team is very special and we have a chance to go far. At the moment, I’m just focused on getting 1% better every day,” said Blaylock.
