The Texans will be sporting a new look this season, and it’s the first change in uniform since the franchise came into existence.
The team unveiled four new uniforms they will wear at home and on the road this season, including an alternate uniform and color rush version that were all on display during a lavish ceremony for fans on Tuesday night.
“I’m fired up about the new uniforms,” said Texans second-year coach DeMeco Ryans, who also played in the old uniforms. “It’s 2024, time for a fresh look for the Texans. I know we’ve had the same uniforms since our organization started here in 2002. I was messing with the guys earlier, talking about how I wore the same uniform that they’re wearing, and I think it’s time for an update.
“And credit to Doug [Vosik], Cal and Hannah [McNair] – all the work and time that went into coming out with a new look that I think our fans will be excited about. I think the coolest part about the new uniforms is, as you guys know, having our fans’ input into the look of our new uniform.”
“Today, for the first time since 2000, we are so proud to reveal our new uniforms,” Texans’ owner Cal McNair said. “They are even more special because they are inspired by and for our fans. Our fans asked us to be more H-Town, and we delivered. They were with us every step of the way and there’s truly something for everyone over the four uniforms.”
The home uniform is classic, featuring the updated Deep Steel Blue color that matches the original Deep Steel Blue unveiled in 2000, along with a H-Town call out on the inside collar. The home helmet is Deep Steel Blue with blue-on-blue metallic flake paint. It includes the traditional bull logo on the sides with the new H secondary logo on the back. The away uniforms, which is Liberty White is traditional with a modern edge, featuring the traditional sleeve stripe on the back and sides of the jersey that transforms into a bullhorn-inspired design from the front.
The alternate uniform is the bold Battle Red version of the away jersey. The alternate helmet is Battle Red with candy paint red flakes, a red metallic chrome facemask, a new bullhorn-inspired helmet logo application and the Texans bullhead logo on the back. The Color Rush city-inspired uniform introduces H-Town Blue as the first new color introduced to the Texans brand in team history. The Texans are also the first team in NFL history to introduce a new logo on an alternate helmet and a two-logo system across all helmets.
The Texans polled fans, utilized surveys and even enlisted focus groups in order to get input into designing uniforms that tap into the history of the city.
Here is a look at what they came up with.
The new look has been a huge hit with the Texans players and coaches, who got a sneak preview of the uniforms and helmets a few weeks ago.
“I thought that was pretty cool and pretty unique by our organization, being able to talk to our fans and get a true feel for what our fans wanted to see,” Ryans said. “And of course, our players are fired up about the new look, so it’ll be an exciting reveal next week for everyone.”
“I think they’re cool,” said quarterback C.J. Stroud. “I think they’re definitely – I don’t want to say too much – but I think people will like them. Really excited. I think that brings a new energy to NRG, which is kind of ironic, but I’m super excited just to be wearing new stuff. I liked the unis last year too, but I think it’s time for change and it’s a new era now. We’ll be able to build with these unis and look good while doing it.”
