Christmas lists change as we get older. It’s less about the hottest toy or trend and more about things that make life easier, calmer, or a little more enjoyable. This year, my list reflects where many of us find ourselves right now, juggling work, family, finances, and the need to simply be. These are the five things at the top of my Christmas list this holiday season.

More time to rest

At the top of my Christmas list is something you can’t wrap in a box, and that is real rest. Not the kind where you’re still answering emails, running errands, or mentally planning your next move, but actual, uninterrupted downtime. For many of us, especially after another long year of responsibilities, rest feels like a luxury instead of a necessity. We’re tired, but we’ve been conditioned to push through it.

This Christmas, I want time to slow down without feeling like there is some kind of emergency. That could mean sleeping in, taking a quiet morning with a cup of coffee, or spending an afternoon doing absolutely nothing. No deadlines. No pressure. Just space to breathe.

Financial breathing room

Money stress has a way of sneaking into every part of life, especially during the holidays. Gifts, travel, food, and unexpected expenses add up quickly. That’s why financial breathing room is high on my Christmas list this year.

One of my favorite words is ‘NO’, so if it makes no “cents,” it’s a no-go for me.  The ability to enjoy the holidays without constantly having to spend money on unnecessary things is the type of time that I’m on.

This Christmas, financial breathing room would look like catching up, staying ahead, and planning without worries. It would mean having honest conversations about money and setting realistic goals for the year ahead.

Meaningful time with loved ones

As we age, time becomes more valuable than possessions. Schedules get busier, families grow, and moments together feel fewer and farther between. That’s why meaningful time with loved ones is one of the most important things on my Christmas list.

The holidays remind us how fragile time can be. Life moves fast, and before we know it, another year has passed. Being present with the people we love is something we often promise ourselves but don’t always follow through on.

This Christmas, I’m hoping for moments that slow things down. Those moments don’t cost much, but they’re priceless.

Better health and energy

@halfhoodhalfholistic

’Tis the season… of good enough. Not being where you wanted to be or where you thought you’d be at the end of the year can bring up emotions like guilt and shame, but don’t let that consume you. We are in a season where we need to conserve our energy and everything is good enough ✨ . . . #mentalhealthtips #blackmentalhealth #holidayseason #healingjourney

I want to wake up with more energy and fewer headaches. I want mental clarity instead of constant brain fog. I want to feel strong enough to get through the day without being completely drained by the evening.

Eating better without guilt. Moving our bodies in ways that feel good. Taking care of our mental health just as much as our physical health.

The holidays often throw routines off track, but they can also serve as a reminder to listen to our bodies and prioritize ourselves. That means scheduling doctor appointments, getting more sleep, or saying no when we need to, as I said earlier.

A fresh start for the New Year

Finally, the last thing on my Christmas list is a fresh start.

The end of the year naturally brings reflection. We think about what worked, what didn’t, and what we want to change. A fresh start doesn’t require a dramatic overhaul. Sometimes it’s just a mindset shift. Letting go of old habits, releasing grudges, and setting clearer boundaries.

A fresh start means giving ourselves grace and believing that better days are possible.
