Dr. Jeannie Jacobs was a well-known obstetrician-gynecologist in Houston who cared for women at critical stages of their lives.

But behind her professional success, Jacobs grappled with burnout, frustration, and a desire for something more fulfilling. Today, sheโ€™s thriving in a new roleโ€”one far removed from the medical field. As a luxury real estate agent and the creator of the lifestyle brand โ€œJust Jeannie,โ€ sheโ€™s inspiring thousands through social media, sharing her passions for travel, home decor, and personal growth.

Jacobsโ€™ decision to leave medicine wasnโ€™t easy, but it became necessary after years of disillusionment with the healthcare system.

โ€œMedicine became so corporate,โ€ Jacobs says. โ€œIt stopped being about patient care and more about business. The demands were growing, but the compensation and respect for our work werenโ€™t.โ€

The breaking point came during the COVID-19 pandemic when Jacobs, then working as an OB-GYN, encountered a particularly distressing situation. A pregnant woman, 31 weeks along, refused to wear a mask or accept medical care despite showing severe symptoms of the virus.

โ€œShe was spewing conspiracy theories while her oxygen levels were dropping dangerously low,โ€ Jacobs recalls. โ€œIn that moment, I thought, โ€˜Why am I here, taking this abuse when all Iโ€™m trying to do is help?โ€™ That was it for me. I knew I had to leave.โ€

She made the life-altering decision to leave the career she had invested years into.

โ€œI called my supervisor right after that interaction and said, โ€˜Iโ€™m done.โ€™ And I meant it,โ€ Jacobs recalls. โ€œI got in my car, drove down I-10, and never looked back.โ€

But while Jacobs left medicine behind, she wasnโ€™t stepping into the unknown. Several years prior, she had earned her real estate license as a side interest, driven by a passion for transforming old homes in small Louisiana towns.

โ€œI wanted to improve housing conditions for low-income families, so I bought old homes, renovated them, and rented some out. One, I even gave away to someone in need,โ€ Jacobs says.

That hobby soon turned into a real estate business focused on luxury properties. At the same time, Jacobs began sharing more of her life on social media, showcasing her interests in cooking, home decor, and travel. To her surprise, her following grew rapidly.

โ€œI went from a few thousand followers to over 20,000 practically overnight,โ€ she says. โ€œPeople were drawn to my authenticity. I wasnโ€™t trying to be an influencerโ€”I was just being me.โ€

Now, as a full-time luxury real estate agent and lifestyle influencer, Jacobs is living out her passion for creativity while teaching others how to enhance their lives.

โ€œI prefer the term โ€˜lifestyle mavenโ€™ because Iโ€™m not here to influence people into buying things they donโ€™t need. I want to inspire them to live better, to find what brings them joy, and use that as fuel,โ€ she says.

Her background in medicine isnโ€™t lost in this new chapter. The same patience and empathy she exercised with her patients are now applied to her real estate clients and social media audience.

โ€œIโ€™ve learned that whether youโ€™re helping someone bring a baby into the world or helping them find their dream home, itโ€™s about connection, trust, and adding value to their lives,โ€ Jacobs said.

Jacobs is candid about her challenges during the transition despite her real estate and content creation successes.

โ€œItโ€™s not easy to leave a career youโ€™ve spent your life building. But I had to reprogram my mindset,โ€ she said. โ€œYou have to convince yourself that you can start over, that itโ€™s okay to pivot and try something new.โ€

Jacobs encourages othersโ€”especially women and people of color in demanding fieldsโ€”not to be afraid of change.

โ€œA lot of us feel stuck in jobs that donโ€™t serve us anymore, but we stay because itโ€™s comfortable or expected,โ€ she says. โ€œI tell people, go back to what you loved doing before life got in the way. Thatโ€™s often where youโ€™ll find your purpose.โ€

At the heart of Jacobsโ€™ mission is her initiative, Pivotal Moments, designed to celebrate and support women navigating lifeโ€™s transformative challenges. Her approach is rooted in the belief that every woman has the potential to grow and flourish, regardless of the obstacles they face. The debut product from Just Jeannie is the Luminosity candle, a carefully crafted creation that embodies aromatherapy’s soothing power and the illumination’s symbolism. Her venture goes beyond selling products; itโ€™s about building a supportive community for women worldwide

Jacobs remains committed to living authentically and inspiring others to do the same.

โ€œI have no regrets about leaving medicine. I feel sad for my colleagues who are still stuck in unbearable situations, but Iโ€™m glad I chose to prioritize my happiness, my family, and living life on my terms,โ€ she says.
