Though many of us carry our mother’s wisdom with us daily, there’s no better time than Mother’s Day – May 14 – to reflect on some of the best advice they’ve given us over our lifetime. Whether it’s advice on relationships or religion, lessons from our mothers remain with us forever and keep guiding us. Often, we end up passing those lessons on to our own children.
Here, daughters and sons share advices and quotes from their mothers.
Always be a person of your word. Look every person dead in the eyes and always tell the truth. Never leave home without clean underwear on.

Gwendolyn Cannon Jenkins
Love many, trust a few, learn to paddle your own canoe…basically develop the skills to take care of yourself…and liars never win.

Don’t be afraid to meet new people. Most of the time, strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet. Also, leave things better than you found or borrowed them. Treat people better than you want to be treated. The majority will treat you the same. Work hard, and do your best. God does not expect any more than that.

When I left for college my mother got down on her knees and asked me to join her and she said, ‘Lord you gave him to me and once again, I am giving him back to you.’ I learned to love adore and trust God at a young age, and I’m 36 and He has never forsaken me. She gave me Jesus and taught me about him!
