The city of Houston was proud to pay tribute to men and women in the military with its annual “Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Celebration” downtown. The celebration began with a job, resource and health fair for military personnel at City Hall. The health fair provided on-site health screenings, including flu shots. Shortly after, military veterans were honored with poetry and music from local talent, Mayor Sylvester Turner and other city councilmen. The ceremony ended with a moment of silence in memory of the WWI signing of the Armistice. The salute continued with a parade through downtown. In attendance were Vernus C.  Swisher, Barbara H. Irving, Sylvia Garcia, Ted Cruz, Shelia Jackson Lee, Allen T. Parkins, John B. Jackson, Darryl Harper, Robert Bembo III and many more.
