Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, addressed the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s Grand Boulรฉ event in Indianapolis, bringing a message of progress and hope.
Following President Biden’s endorsement and withdrawal from the race, Harris spoke on their shared vision for America, emphasizing issues crucial to the Black community such as social, health, and economic justice.
“I deeply believe in the promise of America, a promise of freedom, opportunity and justice, not for some but for all,” Harris declared.
She highlighted the administration’s efforts on healthcare affordability, child poverty, and student debt relief – issues disproportionately affecting communities of color. Harris also addressed threats to progress, referencing conservative plans like Project 2025.
Calling for action on gun control and reproductive rights, Harris urged the Black community to mobilize: “There is so much at stake in this moment. In this moment, our nation, as it always has, is counting on you to energize, to organize and to mobilize.”
As she continues her historic campaign, Harris’s potential presidency represents a significant milestone for Black Americans in politics.
