Recently, PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) teamed up with the Houston Dynamo and Dash to host a financial fitness soccer camp for 75 Houston students. The 5th graders from Bruce, Memorial and Foster Elementary Schools learned about income, expenses, budgets, as well as how to develop a plan for purchasing something they want, from 35 PwC mentors from the firm’s Houston office.
Immediately following the lesson, the kids hit the field to train with Dynamo forward Will Bruin and midfielder Cristian Maidana and the Dash’s Janine Beckie, an Olympic Bronze Medalist and Kealia Ohai, the team’s Captain.
“PwC’s purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems and today, with the help of the Dynamo and Dash, we did just that,” said Ray Garcia, PwC Greater Houston Market Managing Partner.
“Our Financial Fitness Clinic reached 75 students in Houston and we motivated them to reach for the sky and realize early on how to reach their goals in life – whether it be on the soccer field or in their personal savings accounts.”
The Financial Fitness Youth Soccer Camp is part of PwC’s Earn Your Future (EYF) program, a $190 million commitment focused on helping students develop critical financial skills and providing educators with the resources and training to teach those skills.
