When you hear that the lead characters in a movie are Smoke and Stack, your expectations might be tempered.

But Ryan Coogler’s smash hit horror movie Sinners has captivated audiences and continues to draw them back for more since its premiere on April 18. With the 1932 Mississippi Delta as the backdrop, Michael B. Jordan’s brilliant portrayal of identical twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, takes the audience through one wild night that delves into Black Southern culture, amazing music, religion, racism, underlying messaging and, of course, vampires.

Sinners shattered box office expectations both domestically and internationally in its opening weekend. That trend continued during the second weekend, with theaters packed for nearly every show.

It’s also received rave reviews, garnering a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In our latest episode of the Defender Roundtable, we discuss Sinners, its dive into our culture, the underlying messaging and Ryan Coogler’s ground-breaking deal that has Hollywood on edge.
