Donald Trump has gotten his way again.

In a decision that followed conservative and liberal ideologies, the conservative-leaning Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling that blocked Trump’s attempt at mass layoffs in the Department of Education. So, the path has been cleared for Trump’s stated campaign plan to dismantle or at least severely weaken the Department of Education, which is sure to negatively impact K-12 students in the U.S., college students, adult education and children with disabilities.

Thousands of Department of Education workers have been fighting Trump’s mass layoff attempts and had seemed to find a lifeline through the federal courts. But that fight seems to have been lost with the Supreme Court’s decision.

While this decision will harm children and adults across the board, it’s certain to do the most harm in the Black communities where resources are already strained and limited. What can we do to help lessen the impact on our children?

In the latest episode of the Defender Roundtable, President of the Houston Education Association Michelle Williams joins the panel to discuss the impact of Trump’s intended mass layoffs and the dismantling of the DOE and what our recourse is to help our children.
