With 30 semi-trucks filled with more than 120,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies and hundreds of volunteers working to deliver them to cars snaked around a parking lot the size of a football field, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) is gearing up to play the biggest game of the season. Saturday, February 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 1901 ½ Airport Blvd. Houston, Texas 77051 more than 1.4 million packages of Girl Scout Cookies will be delivered to the world’s youngest entrepreneurs who took pre-orders in January as part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program, the largest girl-led business in the world. This will be the largest distribution of Girl Scout Cookies from one site in Council history.
“For 100 years the Cookie Program has powered what the girls do and accomplish during the year, including taking trips, completing service projects and participating in educational workshops,” said Mary Vitek, CEO for Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC). “Girls also learn to work towards a common goal and solve problems, which builds their confidence to accomplish other goals outside of Girl Scouting. Each year members of our local community look forward to receiving America’s favorite cookies and we are truly grateful for their continuous support.”
Earlier this month, the Council lost its delivery location at Sam Houston Race Park, but thanks to support from corporate partners, donors and the Council’s membership, a new location was found. Parents and local volunteers will line up to pick up their packages of cookies that will be delivered by Girl Scouts to customers in the coming days. Those who haven’t put in orders still have time to satisfy their cookie craving.
Beginning February 17 at 4 p.m., girls will sell cookies at booths located outside of retail locations. To find a booth in their area, customers can visit www.girlscoutcookies.org or download the Cookie Finder App from iTunes or Google Play .
GSSJC’s Cookie Program ends March 26.
