HOUSTON (AP) — Police say a man and his two young children were killed when their car was struck by another that failed to slow for traffic in a construction zone near Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Authorities say the man, his daughter and his son all died at the scene on a freeway late Friday evening. They say the children were approximately 4 to 6 years of age.

The speeding car triggered a pileup involving at least six other vehicles.

Several people were taken to hospitals with injuries but authorities didn’t have an exact count and could not detail the extent of the injuries.

Police Capt. Megan Howard told KPRC-TV that the driver who triggered the wreck has been cooperating with investigators.

She says the driver did not appear to be under the influence.
