Fort Bend ISD is seeking community suggestions for the naming of two Agricultural Centers that currently serve students participating in agricultural programs. The community is invited to submit names through the use of an online form. The deadline to submit names is Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
In the fall of 2016, Fort Bend ISD named a record six facilities in accordance with Board Policy CW (Local). Among the facilities named was the District’s newest Agricultural Center, named after Bonnie Beard, a longtime FBISD agriculture teacher.
“During the selection process for the newest agricultural center last fall, the naming committee requested that the District consider naming the two existing agricultural facilities as well,” said Dr. Christie Whitbeck, FBISD Deputy Superintendent.
“The facilities on Trammel-Fresno and Voss Road house animals of students participating in Ag Science programs, and play an important role in a student’s education.”
Board Policy CW (Local) provides guidelines that govern the naming process, stating that the namesake, living or deceased, should have made a significant contribution to society, and the name should lead prestige and status to an institute of learning.
Nominations for the facilities must be completed using the online form. This link and form will also be provided on the District’s website at www.fortbendisd.com. Those who wish to nominate a name must submit a written one or two paragraph statement (no longer than 250 words) containing biographical/historical data and reasons justifying the suggested name. Names nominated shall generally be names of persons or places. If a person, the individual should have attained prominence locally or nationally, and have made a significant contribution to society. If a place, the name should include historical relevance.
Later this spring, a committee of teachers, community/parent/student representatives and District staff will meet to go over nominations and submit recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
