Mayor Sylvester Turner is calling for entries for the 6th Annual Acres Homes Juneteenth Parade to be held Saturday, June 17.

“The Juneteenth Parade began as a tradition in Acres Homes more than 40 years ago,” said Mayor Turner.  “We revived the parade in 2009 and I’m excited to see that it has grown bigger every year.”

The Parade will take place beginning at 10 a.m. with staging at 8 a.m.  It will start at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center, 6719 W. Montgomery, head north on W. Montgomery, turn left on Dolly Wright and then end at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1620 Dolly Wright.   West Montgomery will be closed along the route during the duration of the parade.

There is no admission fee.  Entries can be vehicles (convertibles, trucks and motorcycles only–no cars or SUV’s), marching bands, dancers, schools, non-profit organizations, community leaders, floats, horse carrying riders and pulling carriages and more.  All vehicles must be decorated and a current auto insurance certificate must be provided.  Floats and horses must have general liability insurance.  Candy and trinkets may not be thrown into the audience; they may only be handed out by persons walking in the street.

Entry deadline is June 2.  Please visit the city’s website for the entry form at:

Volunteers are also needed to help with check-in, staging the participants and disbanding at the end of the route.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Eileen Quan in the Mayor’s Office of Special Events at eileen.quan@houstontx.gov.
