Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee released the following statement regarding her appointment today to the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee:
Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi appointed Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas’ 18th Congressional District to the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee for the new 115th Congress. The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee is the most powerful Democratic organization in the U.S. House Representatives which controls committee assignments, sets the Democratic agenda, formulates policy positions, and responds to political attacks on the hard-working men and women of this country.
“The bold strategic insight in our Steering & Policy Committee leadership will give our Caucus a strong foundation to succeed in the tough battles for hard-working families ahead,” said Leader Pelosi.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee stated that, “Under the leadership of Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, we are prepared to protect our communities from right wing attacks on healthcare including Medicare and Medicaid, seismic tax cuts for the rich that will eliminate housing and education opportunities, cuts to workforce and job training programs, lack of business opportunities for minority and women owned businesses, and blocking real criminal justice reform.”
