Undies for Everyone, a local nonprofit that aims to enhance the self-esteem, dignity, hygiene and success of disadvantaged students by providing underwear, recently announced their lineup of activities during National Underwear Week.
More than 70 percent of Houston area recipient schools rely on Undies for Everyone as their sole source of emergency underwear. Houstonians are welcome to participate, whether by donation or volunteer efforts.
Undies for Everyone’s schedule is as follows:
- Saturday, Aug. 5: National Underwear Day (Followers are encouraged to dress in their wackiest underwear over their clothes and share on social media to raise awareness of the program). #undies4everyone, #nationalunderwearday, #freshpair
- Saturday, Aug. 5 – Saturday, Aug. 12: Dessert Gallery will be selling Undies- themed cookies in support of the organization. Proceeds from any Undies or Back-to-School themed cookies purchased will go back to Undies for Everyone.
- Saturday, Aug. 12: Undies for Everyone will be donating over 50,000 pairs of underwear to 14,000 students at the Mayor’s second annual Back 2 School Fest at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
“Our mission is to raise awareness for our cause and provide underwear to students in classroom settings who do not enjoy the most basic of needs,” said Rabbi Amy Weiss, Founder and Executive Director of Undies for Everyone. “We’re thrilled that we’re able to contribute to the lives of Houston students in such an impactful way. Ultimately, we want to keep children in classrooms and bullies at bay. Participating in a variety of activities throughout Houston allows us to do that.”
