Al Green begins Trump impeachment effort

Houston Congressman Al Green announced that he will officially introduce articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

“Next week, I will officially be introducing articles of impeachment against the president of the United States. #RepealAndReplaceTrump,” Green wrote on Twitter.

In May, Green gained national attention as the first representative to call for Trump’s impeachment on the House floor. He said that move resulted in death threats.

“I have engaged in the process of drafting articles of impeachment,” he said. “My articles of impeachment are being reviewed and at some point, if no one else does, I will file articles of impeachment to impeach President Donald J. Trump for obstruction of justice. The question really is not whether the president has obstructed justice, the question really is whether the president can obstruct justice with impunity.” California Democrat Rep. Brad Sherman joined Green in support of the process. Sherman’s article of impeachment states that Trump should be removed due to “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Fifty percent of the House of Representatives and two-thirds of the Senate must agree to remove a president from office.
