In the race for Harris County Commissioner Precinct 4, vote for incumbent Lesley Briones. A native Texan, proud Latina, and mom of three daughters, Lesley has dedicated her career to public service and fighting for working families – as a teacher, lawyer, nonprofit leader, judge, and now Harris County Commissioner.
As Commissioner, Lesley leads a team of approximately 500 people serving more than 1.2 million residents – more than the population of eight U.S. states. Her team builds and maintains roads, bridges, sidewalks, and drainage; responds when disasters strike; and operates parks, community centers, and other county facilities that communities rely on every day.
Here are five reasons you should cast your vote for Commissioner Briones:
- She made life more affordable – Lesley delivered real tax relief for seniors and people with disabilities by raising the homestead exemption to $336,000. She also championed a historic living wage policy so all county employees and contractors make at least $20 an hour.
- She fought to protect seniors, veterans, and vulnerable residents during disasters by requiring backup power in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, as well as providing hundreds of free portable AC units to Precinct 4 residents.
- She expanded the Holistic Assistance Response Team (HART) to send unarmed, trained mental health professionals to connect people to the right care while freeing up law enforcement to focus on violent crime.
- She brought free health and mental health care into neighborhoods by launching a teen health clinic in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine, as well as providing free immunizations, dental care, and other health services at Precinct 4 community centers.
- She advanced major flood protection projects from the 2018 Flood Control Bond and secured billions in federal funding to protect neighborhoods across Precinct 4, with a focus on high-risk flood areas and vulnerable communities.
Remember to vote all the way down the ballot!
