Lamar High School cornerback Alex Hogan, a Texas Tech commit, is the true definition of a playmaker.

On the defensive side of the ball he is called upon to cover the opposing teams’ best wide receivers. On special teams he is lighting in a bottle, particularly on punt returns. On offense he is called upon to run the wildcat in short yardage situations. Hogan is everywhere on the field.

When Lamar Head Coach Michael Lindsey was asked about his three-way starter he said. “Hogan is a competitor. He comes out every game, lays it on the line and loves to compete.  He is an electric athlete. We know when the ball is in his hands anything can happen. It doesn’t matter if he is playing offense, defense or special teams. Alex is a competitor.”

Hogan talked with the Defender about his role on the team and how he managed to become “Mr. Everywhere” on the field this season.

Defender: How would you describe your style of play?

Hogan:“A physical lockdown corner. I can play everywhere and anyone that you put in front of me is going to get the business.”

Defender: How do you prepare yourself as an athlete for the different helmets you have to wear on defense, offense and special teams?

Hogan:“Mainly staying focused and thinking about doing whatever I can do to help my team win”

Defender: Walk us through what goes through your head when returning punts and kicks?

Hogan:“When I am back deep I just think about scoring, what I can do to get myself in the endzone, what my teammates can do to help me and just making plays for the team.”

Defender: Why is Texas Tech the right fit for you?

Hogan:“I feel like it is the right fit for me because I’m not too big and not too small. I have family up there and it just felt like home when I went there. I like what the coaches are doing with their defensive backs and I know when I go as a freshman I have a high chance of playing.”

Defender: How do you exceed the expectations of your team as you push your way into the end of the season and playoffs?

Hogan:“I have to mainly stay on top of [my team]. I have to have energy, everyone has to have energy so that everyone can play as a family and we are going to win.”
