As the 2024 high school football season heats up, one name is causing opposing quarterbacks sleepless nights: Chace Sims. The Richmond Randle High School senior is more than just a player, he’s a force to be reckoned with. Standing 6-feet-3 and weighing in at 290 pounds, Sims has established himself as one of the premier defensive tackles in the region, earning a reputation as a quarterback’s worst nightmare.

“Getting to the quarterback is my job. I love doing my one of 11. I love this team and I’m going to go hard every down for them,” said Sims.

A three-year varsity letterman and a two-time 1st team all-district selection, Sims’s performance on the field speaks for itself. Last season, he terrorized offensive lines with 23 solo tackles, 63 assisted tackles, 11 sacks, and 11 quarterback hurries. His relentless pursuit and sheer power on the defensive line have drawn comparisons to former NFL greats like Warren Sapp and current stars such as Dexter Lawrence II of the New York Giants and Ed Oliver, who was a high school standout at Westfield in Spring, Texas before making his way to the NFL.

“I studied Warren Sapp because he played with high energy,” said Sims. “He had a high motor and was extremely aggressive off the line. I studied Dexter Lawrence because he is the definition of a true nose guard who can stop the run no matter what. Ed Oliver was truly dominant for that Houston team, and he played every down like it was his last, and that’s what I try and add to my game, that motor.”

But it’s not just about stats for Sims. His senior season is proving that he hasn’t let off the gas at all. Known for his unmatched stamina, Sims is a rare three-down lineman, making an impact on every play, regardless of the situation. His relentless motor and tenacity make him a constant threat to disrupt the backfield, often single-handedly shifting the momentum of a game.

Richmond Randle plays in the highly competitive 5A-2 Region III District 9, where they hope to build on last year’s success. Despite a heart-wrenching 14-13 loss to Huntsville in the third round of the playoffs, the Lions are confident that with Sims anchoring their defensive line, they have what it takes to make another deep run this year.

“I’ve always prided myself on being a player that never stops, no matter the score or the situation,” said Sims. “I want to be the guy that my teammates can rely on every down, every play.”

His dominance hasn’t gone unnoticed by college scouts, either. After narrowing his choices to Texas A&M, the University of Texas, and the University of Washington, Sims committed to Texas A&M, citing a strong connection with the program. This decision has excited Aggie fans, who are eager to see Sims bring his relentless drive and playmaking ability to Kyle Field.

“They showed me love right out the gate and I felt playing in the SEC and having a chance to play early would help me be dominant for years to come,” said Sims.

For now, however, Sims’s focus remains solely on leading Randle to the playoffs and beyond.
