The Alief Elsik boys and Spring Branch Memorial girls both won Class 6A state soccer championships in Georgetown. No. 1 nationally-ranked Elsik held off San Antonio Reagan 1-0 behind Jose Umana’s goal off a 12th-minute penalty kick. Rams goalkeeper Eliaz Zamora was selected MVP with four second-half saves when the team was a man down due to a rare red card infraction. Elsik finished the season 220-2 and secured the first Alief ISD boys’ team state title. Two goals from MVP Grace Collins helped Memorial triumph over Lewisville Marcus 3-0 in the girls’ 6A title game. Memorial was also a first-time state soccer champion
