H.S. Sports Year in Review: Wheatley girls go to state

The Wheatley High School girls’ basketball team made their first trip to the state high school basketball tournament following a 56-51 victory over District 24-4A rival Yates in the Region III-4A championship game at Sam Houston State University. Point guard Telisha Brown was selected tournament MVP. At one point, Wheatley and Yates are tied for first place in District 11-4A with 9-1 marks and Wheatley was ranked No. 7 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Class 4A state girls’ poll. Wheatley lost in the state semifinals, falling to eventual state champion Argyle 62-46 in Class 4A
