Jachai Cantave, a 12 year old guard from Woodbridge Porter Middle School in Porter, TX, has shown he may have what it takes to make a name for himself. In the Lee Sloan Invitational, Cantave led Team Harden 12 U with 16 points in a championship victory over Basketball Determination Avenue wherein his squad was down 5 points at halftime.
When Team Harden 12 U Coach Everett Green was asked what makes Jachai special, Coach Green stated, โHe brings a different role of leadership. He is one of our hardest workers. He loves the game of basketball and he just a good kid.โ
The Defender spoke with Jachai after the championship game to discuss his style of play, how he got into playing the game and his keys to success at the Lee Sloan Invitational.
Defender: How would you describe your style of play on the court?
Cantave:I just let the game come to me on offense and defense.
Defender: How were you able to be successful at the Lee Sloan Invitational?
Cantave:Playing defense, boxing out and let the offense come to me
Defender: What do you love about the game of basketball?
Cantave:Itโs fun and I love getting better
Defender: How did you get started playing basketball?
Cantave:My dad made me and trained me
