In a five-overtime game that is already being called a classic, Prairie View won the test endurance over Grambling State by virtue of a 36-34 win during the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Panthers, playing in their second overtime game in as many weeks, trailed the Tigers 17-7 in the first half. That’s when Bubba McDowell and his staff turned to senior quarterback Jaden Johnson, who gave the offense the spark it needed with 104 yards and a touchdown through the air while rushing for 22 yards a touchdown. PV, which plays Incarnate Word in a non-conference game on Saturday, keeps its SWAC West title hopes alive by improving to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play. “It was great just come out on the other side with us falling short the week before against Southern. It just felt great to put it all together for one time.”
Astros swept out of Wild-card Series by Detroit
The Astros will not be present in the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2016. They have the Detroit Tigers and manager A.J. Hinch, who began the Astros’ current postseason run before being fired, to blame for the early playoff ouster. Hinch got revenge over his old team, leading the Tigers to a sweep of the Astros in the Wild Card series at Minute Maid Park this week.
TSU inducts 24 members to Sports Hall of Fame
Texas Southern ushered in 24 new members of the school’s Sports Hall of Fame during a sold-out affair at the Ballroom Bayou Place on Friday night. The night honored former student-athletes, coaches, and support staff for their exemplary service to Texas Southern. Among the inductees were current athletic director and former basketball great Kevin Granger, former football standout Mike Holmes, Olympic track star Karen Hawkins and Pro Football Hall of Famer and current Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan. It was the first Sports Hall of Fame induction for TSU since 1996.
Jalen Milroe leads Crimson Tide to upset win
