Two Houston area high schools have been mainstays in the Associated Press Class 6A state high school football Top 10 poll throughout the 2017 season. Klein Collins has just joined the elite fraternity.

Katy (3) and The Woodlands (9) will stay put for another week. Katy was idle after winning its first three games without a loss while The Woodlands improved to 4-0 with a 45-21 win over Lufkin.

Klein Collins edged Spring Westfield for the No. 10 spot in the state poll last week and will remain on the leader board following a 21-10 victory over rival Klein Oak at Klein Memorial Stadium.

Tigers’ quarterback Carter Rhyme threw first quarter touchdown passes of 8 and 18 yards to Joseph Cordova and A.J. Bennett, respectively. Isaiah Spiller added a three-yard scoring run in the third stanza to send Klein Collins to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in District 15-6A.

Westfield (4-0) is knocking on the door at No. 11 following a 22-0 win over Dekaney.

In the Class 5A Top 10 state poll unbeaten powerhouses Manvel (2) and Angleton (7) represent the greater Houston area. Fort Bend Marshall, Richmond Foster and Tomball also received votes.
